I have been playing the SAT for just a month now, after reading the fundamentals in golf digest. It has improved my shot-making and power significantly. I would previously get 260-270 off the tee when I really got a hold of one but this is now 290-300. On my third outing using the swing I put the ball 8 feet from the pin with a 300 yard drive to a short par 4 and made eagle. The hole before that plays about 295 over a hazard and I also drove that green, something I had done only once previously. My 7 iron is now a 170 club, previously 155. I have always been fairly straight. My worst shot with the SAT is a straight push and the occasional high one off the tee, I find you have to tee it just a little lower than with a traditional swing. The swing promotes a nice draw but I do not find that it is creating any severe hooks for me. I think this swing will lower my typical score by 3-4 strokes. I occasionally shoot even par but more usually between 75-80, so looking forward to lower averages with the SAT. Now of course it is winter so I will regrip and look forward to spring (or a vacation in AZ).

Spinny, yes, that drill will keep you from being able to shift your weight to the right. It's meant for people that shift too far to the right on the back swing (to the outside edge of the right foot). It also allows the hips to turn further. Another one that's kind of similar is putting a ball under the outside edge of your right foot at address. That will also keep you from shifting too far to the right.

Both of them give the feeling of less shift to people with too much, and I imagine these drills will help a Stack and Tilter to feel more centered during the back swing.

Mike, another comment about the whole S&T thing: not all that long ago I tried a drill on the range where you stood with your trailing foot (right foot for righties) held back so the toes were pointed down and touching the ground. I can't remember where I got the drill, it might have been at golf.com. Anyway, it just occurred to me the weight distribution in that stance seems very much like the one in S&T--as a matter of fact, that forward weight bias from the drill was what gave me the thought to try a version of it on the course yesterday.

Are you familiar with that drill, and what do you think about its similarity?

Glad to hear you're having success with the S&T, Ray. Good luck getting the longer clubs under control.

I am 66 with a 16 handicap which is about as good as it has ever been. My problem has always been "blow up" holes due to inconsistent ball striking. I tried the S&T on the range and it is wonderful for mid to short irons and has definitely helped my game. Results with hybrids and fairway woods a bit iffy so I need to work a lot on this. It is hopeless for the driver, snap hook after snap hook. Overall, I intend to keep working on it. Thanks for this great site.

Claw, it's not so much a matter of trust. It's a matter of knowing that as I progress, I'm essentially going to be on my own. By maintaining a traditional swing, I can still work with a coach who can help me overcome problems. As the S&T gains ground, maybe I'll be able to find a pro to work with me and I can think about switching.

@Double Eagle (or Albatros as we say in Europe).

I can not believe you trust your pro more then the result(s) of your (s&t) swing. It's by far the best thing that aver happened to me, switch to this very simple and very effective swing.

regards,
The Claw

Don't stop at 5, Golf Nut! Once the Stack and Tilt gives you the consistency that you're looking for, there's always short game and putting to look at.

Good luck getting to a 5 (and beyond).

Just found this blog today. I tried the SAT on a lark four days ago and can not believe the consistency of shots hit to date. I am a 9.1 index and just shot a smooth 78 followed up by a 79 yesterday.

The more I read about SAT the more I like the concept. Will stick with it since I have had two back surgeries - the last one was a four level fusion (lower back) a year ago. The SAT works well and does not cause any undo stress or pain on my lower spine.

Sure glad I tried SAT. Now comes the task of getting my handicap down to a five (my goal)!!!!!
