Progress Update - October 21, 2007

Posted by Double Eagle in My Progress - 5 Comments

I got some recent feedback from a few people that I should do more progress updates.

The underlying purpose of Life in the Rough, after all, is to follow my progress toward being a golf pro. But somehow, I had gotten away from reporting that progress. Times have been rough and it’s no fun to report all bad stuff.

Recuperating from surgery has given me a lot of time to think about it, and a progress update is the perfect [...]

Brief Hiatus

Posted by Double Eagle in Miscellaneous - 11 Comments

Apparently, my gall bladder has decided that it doesn’t want to be on board for my quest to become a golf pro. It has sabotaged my efforts with a case of gall stones.

After a brief deliberation, I have decided that we will be parting ways on Monday morning at 6:15.

I expect to be home recuperating for a period of 10-14 days, but I’m not sure what to expect with respect to pain and discomfort so I’m going to go [...]

Uneven Turf - Downhill and Uphill Lies

Posted by Double Eagle in Ball Striking Tips - 3 Comments

Fewer and fewer golf courses these days are relatively flat. In fact, the ones are mostly flat are those that were probably just cut out of the landscape before it became normal to sculpt the land more. Sometimes a player feels he is entitled to relief but is not entirely certain. Never fear! The Rules are here to help.

Rule 3-3 provides guidance when there is a doubt as to procedure.

The rule states that if a player is in doubt [...]

Six Months Down - I Want to Hear From You

Posted by Double Eagle in Miscellaneous - 7 Comments

Today marks six months since Life in the Rough has been in existence.

That’s not much of a milestone, but six months ago I was just wondering if I’d be able to keep up the steam. My posting frequency has declined some, but really that’s me balancing out everything.

The basic premise of this blog is to cover my quest to become a golf pro. That’s a lot of work. At the same time, I’m having so much fun [...]

  • Golf Digest Revisits the Stack and Tilt
  • Golf Digest started a big buzz in their June 2007 with the first major coverage of the “Stack and Tilt”, somewhat of a revolution in the golf swing (with some concepts that aren’t all that new). Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer, the architects of the swing, had already been making a name for themselves on tour with several pros from the PGA and Nationwide tours in their stable.

After the first article, the Stack and Tilt spread like wildfire. [...]
