It's hard to do things during the winter, especially out door activities such as golfing...at least you can workout and practice putting like you stated...but it's even hard to stay motivated to work out when it's cold out ;).

I'm in the process of goal setting for the year and figuring out what tournaments I want to play this season.

The PGA play ability test (PAT) is definitely one of my goals. I'm leaning toward taking that next year.

Since I still have my amateur status, I also want to try and qualify for some of the USGA national tournaments. However, my handicap isn't in the necessary ranges there yet, so those will have to wait until next year too, unless, of course, I make drastic improvements early in the season.

The PAT is definitely on my list of things to do fairly soon.

If you are looking at becoming a club or teaching pro you are probably not as far off as you think.

Are you making any goals to play a certain number of tournaments? I know in Canada that you must pass a play ability test where you need to shoot a certain score to qualify to become a club/teaching professional. Truly a test of golfer versus golf course.

Mike, winter time is the time to keep your workouts up. You can't play golf so you've got all that time to workout. Don't let "self-talk" get you out of your routine. The minute I start hearing myself rational a certain workout, I stop it immediately and get the workout going without delay. It works every time! Give it a try!

I'm a long way off from any kind of pro card, TP.

My primary concern is getting my short game back to where it was a few years ago. It was a problem for me this year, because I was having so many full swing problems.

I tried to not fall into the trap of spending too much time practicing the stuff that isn't as important (full swing), but I was having serious ball-striking problems, so I ended up neglecting the short game too much.

In a sense, it doesn't matter much what I do with the full swing this year because it can only improve. That's why it's the perfect time to think about experimenting with the Stack and Tilt. In the worst case, I'll try it for a while and realize it's nothing special and go right back to what I was doing.

I was able to pick up the basics on the range this past spring in about 20 or 30 balls. I figure if I start out in April, I should have all the information I need by the end of May. If it doesn't pan out, then the decision to switch back will be easy.

Are you trying to qualify for your pro card this coming year? The reason I ask this is are you willing to try a swing change leading up to the event. Have you tried the stack and tilt under pressure? Personally I would rather you find a swing that works under the gun than try the latest fad (I see many similarities to the one plane swing in the stack and tilt, but that is another discussion).

I do like the idea of the golf improvement system for your own improvement. It seems to fit your preferred learning style seeing that you came from a more analytical background. And I can see its benefit in pinpointing any weak spots that need improving.

Keep up the good work
