Rules of Golf Changes for 2008

Posted by Double Eagle in Rules - 3 Comments

Next year starts another rules cycle. Every four years, the USGA and R&A get together to iron out changes to the rules and to the decisions on the rules. New changes will be in effect on January 1, 2008.

You can access documents comparing the 2008 changes to the rules and decisions against the current rules and decisions here.

There aren’t any significant changes this cycle. Yes, out of bounds is still stroke and distance. Most changes are [...]

Widening Shot Target Expectations

Posted by Double Eagle in Mental Game - 5 Comments

In the December 2007 issue of Golf Magazine, there was an interesting piece of instruction by Charlie King that I’m not sure I agree with.

In the “Your Game” section (p. 68) in an article titled “How to Putt for Birdie Every Time“, King brings up an interesting concept in target selection in golf.

  • Recently, I found myself reading Tom Wishon’s book, “The Right Sticks“, where he topples a mountain of long-standing golf equipment myths.  It’s a great book that I’ll be reviewing shortly, but one of the myths stuck out to me.

Wishon tackled the myth about longer drivers producing more distance.  Myth #18 (out of 37!) is: “The longer the length of a club, the farther you’ll hit the ball.“  That’s right, it’s a myth.  Well, to be fair, it’s a partial myth.  [...]
