Progress Update - January 27, 2008

The winter gives me a lot of time to spend time catching up on golf (and other) books. On one hand, it’s nice to be able to find the time, but it’s a double-edged sword. Being an experimenter by nature, as I’m reading, I’m just dying to be able to get out to the range to try it all out.
As I mentioned yesterday, I’m currently captivated by Jim Hardy’s teachings on the one- and two-plane swings.
All I’ve been able to do since my last report is continue to read, do some indoor drills (grip, posture, etc.), and to continue my work with the Pelz Putting Track. I really like the Putting Track.
On the workout front, I’m continuing to work on my flexibility and endurance, but not at the level I’d like. Winter is tough, because my mind really wants me to go into hibernation mode. It’s a battle. I need to move to a place where the winters are mild.
I got a chance yesterday to try out the treadmill plan that I told you about the other day. It was deceptively difficult. That shows how much work I need to do. I did the day one routine and had to call it quits a little early from excessive calf cramping/burning. Not a problem, though. I should have no problem next session and will just repeat the day-1 routine again until I get through it.
Tweaks
As I discussed yesterday, I’m seriously considering adopting a one-plane swing, for the boost in consistency that it should provide. At my course, accuracy is an absolute necessity. I’m hoping the weather gives me a break next weekend and I can get to the driving range to try it out. I don’t mind the cold, but it really tightens up my back and I think it does more harm than good.
I need to re-focus my efforts with the Putting Track. When I’m busy or feeling tried or stressed, sometimes I neglect to give it 15 minutes each day. To get the most out of it, I really need to make the time.
