Is Etiquette Dead?

Posted by Double Eagle in Etiquette - 7 Comments

I’m hesitant to use this stump to complain about things, but I’m going to indulge myself for a few moments. It seems like every time I go to the golf course, I’m reminded that golf course etiquette is becoming extinct. I’m not necessarily talking about how a player interacts with his group. I’m talking about how he interacts with other players and with the course itself.

Maybe I just have expectations that are too high. I got [...]

A Day at The Republic Golf Club

Posted by Double Eagle in Course Reviews - 0 Comments

I finally had a chance to play a round of golf here in San Antonio at The Republic Golf Club. Yesterday I got out and shook off the rust during an afternoon round.

The Course

The Republic Golf Club is located in the southern part of San Antonio, TX. It is currently a qualifying site for the U.S. Senior Open and was voted the number one course in San Antonio by the Express-News in 2006.

From the green tees, [...]

Getting Some Practice on the Road

Posted by Double Eagle in My Progress - 0 Comments

So far, I haven’t had a chance to play golf out here on my Texas road trip. I was going to try and play here in Fort Worth, but it just didn’t work out. Tomorrow, I head down to San Antonio for a few days, so maybe I’ll have better luck.

A Day at the Colonial Invitational

Posted by Double Eagle in Miscellaneous - 3 Comments

I got to stand on the grounds of Hogans Alley!

Walking in the gates, I felt like a child. I was filled with wonder and enjoyment. It seems like I never get used to standing near the players that I see on television week in and week out for years and years. Watching them hit [...]

Golf Ball Position at Address

Posted by Double Eagle in Ball Striking Tips - 2 Comments

There are two main schools of thought about ball position for full swings. The first is that ball position is around the middle of the stance for a wedge and moves slightly toward the left foot (for a right-hander) for each longer club, through the driver where the ball position would be somewhere near the left heel. The stance also widens slightly for each longer club.

The second is a relatively stationary ball position near the left heel but [...]

  • Golf Digest Revisits the Stack and Tilt
  • Golf Digest started a big buzz in their June 2007 with the first major coverage of the “Stack and Tilt”, somewhat of a revolution in the golf swing (with some concepts that aren’t all that new). Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer, the architects of the swing, had already been making a name for themselves on tour with several pros from the PGA and Nationwide tours in their stable.

After the first article, the Stack and Tilt spread like wildfire. [...]
