Getting Some Practice on the Road

Posted by Double Eagle in My Progress

So far, I haven’t had a chance to play golf out here on my Texas road trip. I was going to try and play here in Fort Worth, but it just didn’t work out. Tomorrow, I head down to San Antonio for a few days, so maybe I’ll have better luck.

Visiting the Colonial Invitational on Friday really lit my golfing fire, though. I’ve been in serious withdrawal.

Tonight, I couldn’t take it anymore and decided to seek out a driving range for some evening practice. A little Googling turned me on to Leonard Golf Links, an awesome practice facility just outside Fort Worth.

If you live in the area or find yourself traveling around Fort Worth, I recommend it. It has a large number of grass tee hitting stations, each with a club stand and bench. The tees are all bent grass. There’s a covered area for practicing in inclement weather. In addition, there’s a nice practice green, and a green for bunker and short game practice. On top of that, it has a large, well-stocked pro shop and several professionals on staff for lessons and clinics.

Now that the spontaneous plug is out of the way, I have to say that I’m hitting the ball extremely well.

I’m hitting just about every club solidly most of the time. The only minor exception is my driver. I was hitting some really good shots, but I was catching some out on the toe a bit. The ones I was catching flush were flying a mile directly into the prevailing and ever-present Texas wind, though.

I was working the ball left and right fairly well, too.

I would have liked to hit the practice green and short game area, but it was getting late and I was pretty worn out. If anything, my golf withdrawal is worse now, so I’m going to have to try extra hard to fit in a round in San Antonio some time n the next few days.

  • Banish Your Slice
  • A huge percentage of high handicap golfers have swing flaws that cause them to slice the ball. For anyone unaware, a slice is a shot that curves excessively to the right for a right-handed player or to the left for a left-handed player. The basic cause is an open club face at impact (where the club face points to the right of the target for a right hander). But there are other flaws that lead to that [...]
