I like your ideas as well as some of the ones that TP Online had. The match play is very good and I think would add to the excitement of the playoffs. They tweeked the system a bit after last year and maybe they will do some of the things mentioned in your and other posts again for next season.

David, you'd think so, but the WGC Accenture Match Play is a pretty popular event. It carries the same risk. However, since 1999, it's only been won by Tiger Woods 3 times (heh... "only"), but there are not really any no-names in there either. It's not all top-tier players, but some good players.

My feeling is that the fear of no-names is usually not a big deal because no-names don't tend to win. That's why they're no-names in the first place. But sometimes they do and it's a huge exciting story anyway.

I love the idea of a matchplay finish bu the sponsors and TV won't let it happen - too much risk that a no-name will win. Plus there's very little golf to show in the latter stages. Shame.

I like your idea of the top 1/2 of the field moving on to the next round.

Things I would change:
1. Reduce the number of events to 3 from 4.
2. Top 96 qualify for playoffs
3. Top 32 players in regular season get a bye in the first event.
4. Field size for Week 1 and Week 2 is 64. And 32 for the Final Week.
5. Move the playoffs so they are at the end of the season.
6. Incrementally increase the purse size as the playoffs progress.
7. A new twist, if there are more players tied for the last qualifying spot to advance to the next event. So after four rounds there are 4 players tied for 30th place they have a playoff to determine which two players advance and are eliminated. How's that for sudden death?

I always thought having the playoffs before the season offically ends was anticlimatic for the PGA TOUR. Have you watched the last few events to watch those who are on the bubble to be exempt for the next year? As a fan I want the playoffs to be exciting whether it is golf, hockey, or football. As a fan I want to see the most skilled players or teams.

While I agree with the poll results and like your suggestions for possible changes, I don't think it's something we'll ever see. For one it's too simple and that right there elimantes it as a possiblity because people by nature must make things more difficult than they have to be. Second the PGA will never admit they got it all wrong from the ground up, when they can just tinker with the current system every year and promise amazing results
