A Couple of Notes

I regularly get press releases about various events and products and I like to share the ones I think will be of interest to you. Here’s a couple that caught my eye recently.

Golf in 2016

There has been talk of trying to get golf into the Olympic games for quite a while now.  ForeFront, a supplier of golf accessories has started an effort to get golf into the 2016 games.  Here’s the detail from the release:

With the International Golf Federation lobbying the International Olympic Committee for one of two open spots on the sports calendar for 2016, and with a decision on the 2016 sports roster to be made in October of 2009, golfers are being encouraged to cast their vote for Golf in 2016.

There are two spots open for 2016, with seven sports applying, including golf, baseball, softball, karate, rugby sevens, squash and roller sports.

Sponsored by ForeFront, the industry’s leading supplier of premium golf accessories, they have established a website, www.golfin2016.org, where interested individuals can visit to cast their vote. All golfers and golf fans are encouraged to voice their opinion, as this survey is designed to provide a compelling data point for Golf in 2016.

Feel free to visit the Golf in 2016 website if you’d like to cast your vote on whether golf should be included in the Olympic games.

Shingle Creek Golf Club Salutes Military Personnel

Any time someone does something special for military personnel, it catches my attention.  I was happy to see that Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida is saluting active-duty, reserve, and retired military personnel with a special offer.  Here’s the detail from the press release:

Active duty, reserve and retired military personnel can enjoy a special offer of a $59 rate until April 5, then a $49 rate April 6 through May 17 and finally a $39 rate May 18 to September 30, 2009 for a round of golf (cart included) at the award-winning Shingle Creek Golf Club.

The discounted greens fees, which normally range from $79 to $149 depending on time of year, include a golf cart featuring GPS yardage system, complimentary valet parking, on-course beverage and delivery service, a state-of-the-art practice facility, access to the full-service 1,600 square-foot golf shop and full-service Clubhouse Grille and Bar, access to PGA teaching professionals at the Brad Brewer Golf Academy and discounts for Drivers Club members.

“We at Rosen Hotels & Resorts continually look for new ways to support our active duty troops as well as the members of the reserves and retired military members,” said Harris Rosen, President & COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts and a former officer in the United States Army. “We are proud to be able to provide our country’s military with a little R&R by way of some affordable championship golf to help them relax and recharge with their friends and families.”

To book this special military offer, visit www.shinglecreek.golf.com or call (866) 996-9933. Valid military ID must be presented upon arrival. The rate is subject to availability, does not include tax and gratuities and cannot be used by groups or meeting attendees or with any other coupons or offers.

It’s great that Shingle Creek has extended this offer.  If any current or former military personnel are in the Orlando area or are planning a trip there, here’s your chance to play a highly-rated golf course at a discount rate.

I agree that Golf should be given a try at the Olympics but it must be amateur golf, not pro. It should not be a Tiger woods vs everyone else but genuine amateurs like Danny Lee.
