Caddyshack is one of my favorite movies ever! Bill Murray was classic.

"It's no big deal...it's just a Baby Ruth!"

Honestly...how is that not in the top three best quotes????

Caddyshack is one of my favorite movies of all time and the Carl quote from your post is one I ruminate on all the time while trying to fall asleep at night. I'm not sure why I find it so comforting. I haven't seen the movie in probably 6-7 years and it was awesome to read the exact Carl quote because I realized that it had slowly morphed into something marginally different over the years. Good to get back on track.

Beth, Caddyshack isn't everyone's cup of tea. I don't recommend torturing yourself because enjoying it isn't a prerequisite for hanging around here. That said, you might find it a little funnier this time around.

Because I respect you, I am going to try once again to "get through" Caddyshack.

Rodney Dangerfield is the problem for me.

He was sort of the Henny Youngman, "Take my wife, PLEASE," sort of comic.

There are people who are naturally funny in film; people who are not necessarily considered funny, but just make me laugh no matter how serious the scene. Christopher Walken is such a personality.

On the other hand, Dangerfield is in my mind delivers a "I am a victim" message.

The psychology of being a victim does not wash well with me. And, it certainly doesn't need bolstering. People do it well enough without encouragement.

There are people who geniuinely ARE victims of family or society, and most just get over it, and go on with their lives. That I find tremendously attractive in a person.

I know I know! Dangerfield is supposed to be funny. But, I can honestly say, I've never even cracked a smile watching him perform.

For his loved ones' sake, I wish Rodney were still with us. But, from a comedy standpoint, I have trouble getting over the reason he is so famous. "I get no respect."

All that said though, I am going to force myself to watch Caddyshack all the way through, and hope to become part of the Caddyshack fan club.

If Caddyshack is the price I must pay to belong here, well, Caddyshack it will be.

I once heard a rumor that every new golfer to go through Miami-Ohio's program had to memorize the entire script to Caddyshack and put on a show for the returning players. That'd probably actually be fun to do and watch!
