Inspiration

This is one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen.  It’s the story of DJ Gregory, a man born with cerebral palsy, who had the dream of walking along with the players at every single event of the PGA Tour season.  With some sponsorship help and the cooperation of the PGA Tour, he lived his dream this year. Watching that certainly puts things in perspective for me.  DJ Gregory would not be denied his dream, and he reached out and grabbed it, through sheer determination.  It’s things like this that help me renew my own commitment to my goals.  Really, this teaches me what commitment is in the first place.  I have to question whether I even understood before now. What an inspiration.  And hats off to the PGA Tour and its players for their part. Thanks, DJ for showing me the way. DJ blogged about his experience at PGATour.com. You can check it out here.

Some Fun with Tiger Woods

Someone from EA Sports dropped me a line with a couple of cool Tiger Woods video ads. These clips have been circulating the web recently surrounding the release of the new Tiger Woods ’09 game.  They both gave me a laugh and I’m a fan of the game, so I thought I’d share them in case anyone hasn’t seen them. Tiger walks on water: Tiger masters Rubik’s Cube? Tiger Woods ’09 is in stores now.

Ever Had a Hole in One?

The most recent poll question asked that question.  As of this writing, there are 266 responses that break down as follows: No (59% – 158 Votes) Yes (41% – 108 Votes) Poll inaccuracy aside, I’m a little surprised at the number of players that have had a hole in one.  For a majority of the time this poll ran (up until recently), the breakdown has been fluctuating between 35-40% of players having done it. I would have guessed the number to be somewhat lower, but I guess when I think about it, the odds say that if you play enough golf, it’s going to happen. According to About.com, Golf Digest reported in 1999 that “one insurance company puts a PGA Tour pro’s chances at 1 in 3,756 and an amateur’s at 1 in 12,750.”  A company that sells hole in one insurance puts the odds for an average player at 12,500 and the odds for a tour pro at about 2,500. Those are reasonably close, so let’s assume the second insurance company’s odds for the

As promised, Life in the Rough 2.0 has gone live.  It’s a complete overhaul and vastly different than the old look.  I was really going for clean and simple and I think I achieved that. I owe a debt of gratitude to those who gave me feedback along the way, from friends and family who acted as sounding boards early on, to readers that volunteered feedback over the past week.  In fact, that recent input led to several last-minute changes that I feel enhanced the overall simplicity. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.  I’d appreciate any reports about things that are broken or out of place.  I’m also happy to hear criticisms or complaints.  Sometimes sudden change is uncomfortable, but we’ll get through it. Since I can’t seem to stop tinkering, don’t be surprised if things continue to change slightly over the next few weeks as I finally wean myself off of this process that has taken a huge number of hours over the last several months. I
